Things Fall Apart: Please Stand By
OK, folks, this week's chapter is delayed by the sudden realization that I was about to write about a tour of a ship I had not yet fully laid out in my head. I am, in fact, now going about doing some research as to how actual naval ships are laid out, not so much to copy one as to make sure I'm not leaving out anything that one would expect on a ship of the line, modified for far-future technology. I'm hardly the first space-opera writer to use wet-navy ships as a starting point.
Now, you're probably thinking, "But wait, you already figured this kind of thing out for Bellerophon, right?"
Shamefaced, I must admit that I totally winged Bellerophon. Remember that I was adapting a game scenario, which itself was more or less winged, with details come up with as needed for the game.
Now, though, I get to actually think through the layout of Zephyr, and more, whatever I think through is pretty much gonna have to stick, and be consistent, for the foreseeable future. As I started to write the tour, I found myself pantsing it, which is valid, but deciding I didn't entirely want to pants it.
So, there will be a delay, possibly 'til next week, while I actually plan out our heroes' new home.
Meanwhile, there might be some Radio Ramblings content this week to parallel what I've been posting on my radio YouTube channel, so if you enjoy those, stay tuned.
Happy new year!
